Water, Waste & Recycling
Thredbo is responsible for water supply, waste removal, recycling and sewage, in addition to Road & Transport maintenance. In order to keep Thredbo and its surrounding environment as pristine as possible, please check the below maps and guidelines for everything you need to know to keep Thredbo clean.
One of Thredbo’s key sustainability goals is a commitment to reducing waste to landfill by 10% by 2026. One way you can help is by making sure you use the right bin correctly and recycle like a champion!

Recycling & Waste Disposal
Waste Collection
Thredbo is responsible for the collection of waste from the enclosures located outside each property. The pick up days work on a roster system, with each property being serviced between 3 and 7 times per week (depending upon the size and use of the premises).
Please understand that the Environmental Services department is also responsible for snow clearing and during extreme weather events there may be a collection delay.
General waste should be secured in plastic waste bags weighing no more than 10 kg. Loose waste in the enclosures will not be collected. It is the property owners’ responsibility to keep the waste enclosure in a clean and serviceable state.

Things We Recycle
Thredbo recycles metal, glass, plastic containers, paper and cardboard, as well as organic food waste. Download our guide on which food wastes you can and can’t recycle.
Other Wastes
Disposal of hard waste (e.g. broken beds, televisions, fridges etc.) is the responsibility of individual property owners. All hard waste should be removed from Kosciuszko National Park and disposed of in an appropriate manner at the owner’s expense.
Help Us Reduce Waste-To-Landfill
As a village, Thredbo is aiming for 50% of generated waste to be diverted away from landfill. Last year we managed 30%, so we’re constantly looking for new ways to recycle even more of our waste. MTB tyres are being recycled again this summer, so look out for the flag and deposit container at the bottom of the Kosciuszko Chairlift to ensure that your tyres are recycled responsibly.

Water Monitoring
Potable Water
In order to ensure the high quality of the water supplied to you we regularly send it for testing at NSW government recognised health laboratories.
Sewerage Effluent
At the other end of the system we also monitor the quality of the water we are putting back into the environment, regularly sending if for sampling at EPA recognised health laboratories. Our results show we consistently outperform our environmental requirements.
